The most important problem of nuclear system design is no more than material exposure in corrosion environment. So reactor design that can withstand high temperature, high pressure and corrosion is overriding.
CTRS (Corrosion Test Reactor System) Series is the reactor for testing the stress corrosion cracking(SCC) process. Stress corrosion cracking is the growth of cracks in a corrosive environment. It can lead to unexpected sudden failure of normally ductile metals subjected to a tensile stress, especially at elevated temperature in the case of metals. SCC is highly chemically specific in that certain alloys are likely to undergo SCC only when exposed to a small number of chemical environments. |

Corrosion Test
|
Intergranular attack (IGA) and intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) are two forms of corrosion in corrosion test.
IGA is the corrosion where the boundaries of crystallites of the material are more susceptible to corrosion than their insides. And IGSCC often when the cooling water cannot flow without a hitch.
